Simple Merfolk

There is no in-game tutorial. Read below for how to play.

Simple Merfolk is a small village management simulator. In it, you only have one job: deciding what the merfolk are supposed to do. Get fish? Get greens? Build the village?

Along the way, you'll have to continually adapt to random events - whether that's a new mouth to feed or an invasion.

Whatever you decide, your choices will have consequences for everyone's survival!

How to Play

Your goal in Simple Merfolk is to build up your merfolk village while balancing your village's actual survival. The game revolves around role assignment to make sure you are generating enough resources and building your village. However, there are also random events which in turn require you to think on your feet each day.

You "win" the game when your village score brings the village to max development.

Available Roles

• Hunters & Farmers gather fish and greens respectively for your villagers to eat. Villagers must eat both every turn!
• Shamans heal hurt villagers.
• Guards protect the village from invaders during random events.
• Merchants generate shells, which can be used to purchased extra resources.
• Workers build up the village into a more spectacular version of itself.
• Children don't generate anything - but they are your important next generation.

About Random Events

Each turn your villagers can be faced with a number of events:

• The bigger your village, the more neighbors will be envious and try to attack you. Be sure you have guards to protect you, or else your civilians will pay the price!
• Sometimes your village is so spectacular immigrants decide to move in. These adults are ready to work out of the box - so use them well.
• Merfolk will be making eyes at each other - and that might mean some babies on the horizon! Protect your next generation.
• Everyone dies - your merfolk included!
• Merfolk have lives and hobbies. Sometimes you'll just get to learn about those extra activities!

Other Gameplay Tips

Here are a few extra tips to make sure you're ready to control your village!

• Young children cannot be assigned work. However, once they hit 13, you can send them wherever you want. Keep an eye on things as you'll probably want to assign those villagers as quickly as possible.
• Each role has its own designated work area. If you need to reassign someone, check there.
• If your village is looking particularly rich, there's a random chance a traveling merchant may show up. These traveling merchants will let you exchange resources to help you during the tough times.
• The game is auto-saved each time you end the year. There is no going back.
